Back from Vietnam

A few scenes from Vietnam:

Right outside our hotel-isn't it wild?

Motorcycle MANIA!!!

Me and My family on the roof of one of our friend's apartments

We met this baby on the way to one of our friend's apartment

Me and Lily in a garden outside a restaurant

Silas and Lily with the daughter of one of our friends

See the guy on the far right? He asked if anyone spoke French, because he's the French teacher. So of course, me being able to speak French(sort of), we got into a conversation

So, that’s a few pics from Vietnam. By the way its soooooo humid there! Type you guys later.

Vietnam

I’m leaving for Vietnam today! We might not have internet service so if there are no posts for the next few days, no worries. Anyway, a few days ago our friend Genevieve came over, and we went to this resteraunt called Green Umbrella. We had soooooooo much gooooood food! First we had this delicious green bean thing, and then we had these garlic brocolli thing, and then there was sweet’n'sour pork, which was all sticky and good, and then we had this caramelized sweet potato thing, so good but I couldn’t eat a lot because of my braces. And last we had lemon chicken which was really good!!! I really haven’t had anything this trip that wasn’t good! Anyway, type you in a couple of days!

Markets…….and school

A couple of  days ago we went to the Pearl Market. It was so cool, but everyone who was selling things would try to get you to buy it. One vendor even followed us down the stairs trying to get us to buy things! Quinn got thirteen games for his Nintendo DS i for less than $30!!!! Me, Silas, and Lily each got a game for our Game Boy Advance SP s, for about $13. Then we went up to the jewelry floor, and I got a pearl necklace and matching earrings. My mom got some earrings for my great-grandma. I really like the Pearl Market. Two days ago we went to the Zoo Market. You can buy clothes there. It’s like a HUGE place just full of factory rejects from America, or Chinese brand spinoffs. I got a Roxy sweatshirt for $5, an Aeropostale shirt for $4.30, and a skirt for just less than $8. My mom got two pairs of jeans, and my sister got a red polka dot dress. I wish all American clothes stores were that cheap! Yesterday we went to our friend Katie’s classroom, and we watched her teach the kids. They were sooooooooooo cute!!!!! I just wanted to give all of them a big hug! They were learning to say all their fruits, and the days of the week. Afterward, me and Katie went on a walk, and there was so much garbage just lying around! Also, there are tons of men who just stand on the side of the road, just smoking and gambling. It’s a totally different culture here. Other people in my family are starting to get homesick, but I’m fine for now.  But I miss all of my friends and family back home! Didn’t I say that last post? Oh, well. Anyway, check soon for some pictures! Gotta go!

Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City

Yesterday we went to Tiananmen and the Forbidden City. Earlier that day I got new glasses. The Forbidden City was AMAZING, there were soooo many gates and the work on the buildings is beautiful. Tiananmen was really cool. We saw a memorial, and also Mao Zedong’s tomb from a distance. The government buildings were pretty cool-looking as well. Here are some pictures

The Great Wall of China

Me and Lily on the Wall

WE WENT TO THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA!!!!!! It was soooooo cool! You could see the wall going over the mountains, and it was sooooo big! We tried some dried fruit from the vendor’s stalls before we left, and after we came back we had delicious dumplings. We have had so much good food here; the day before the Great Wall we went to a Weeger(which is a kind of minority group in China) noodle shop. After we walked across the wall, we came to this slide which you can go down. They call it “The Alpine Toboggan Slide”. It was about one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. It was really fast, and it was just a whole lot of fun. I wish I could do the slide again. Oh, well.

Daily Life

We’ve sort of settled into a routine here. We wake up, eat breakfast, and then after a bit of relaxing, we start home school. But I can’t tell you how many times we have watched Star Wars I and II during down time. I sometimes help my little siblings with their homework. Yesterday I did spelling with my brother(six years old). He got so excited after he got 100% on his spelling pretest. It was just the cutest thing. Lunch is usually low-key. After we eat, more home school, or we go and play with some of the other kids who live in our apartment/office building. Or,we might go to a market or some other cool place to see. We usually go out to dinner, and I have had the most amazing food so far. unfortunately, last night I felt so sick I couldn’t eat the food. I’m feeling a little better now. After dinner we come back to the apartment, and get ready for bed. Then we go to sleep. A lot of days are like this, but we are going to the Great Wall of China tomorrow, so it will be a bit different. There is a slide on the Great Wall. I don’t think America could pull that off! “Slide down Mt. Rushmore!”  Ha ha. Anyway, my brother Quinn (he went to China last year in October) says the slide is really fast and a ton of fun. I can’t wait. My littlest brother and my sister and my parents went to the Toy Market earlier today. They brought back all sorts of goodies. You would not believe how excited they were. I am having so much fun here, but I miss all my friends and family back in the United States. But I would rather be here than doing CSAPs.(Colorado Student Assessment Program). Actually, I really don’t mind CSAPs that much, but it’s nice to miss out on any kind of school for a little bit. All I have to do are some homework assignments. Type you people later! :)

Tienyi Market

At least, I thought it was a statue!

Quinn and the Monkey King of Kung Fu

Silas and the Nutcracker

Today we went to Tienyi Market. There is soooooo much there, it would be impossible to see it all in a month!! Silas my brother got a ray gun, my sister and I both got rings and my mom and I got some earrings. My brother Quinn was sure that he could find a cell phone, but these cell phones only work in China!  Anyway, as we were leaving we saw some neat statues. Here are some pictures!
